Geocaching Compass app for iPhone and iPad
Developer: Sid Baldwin
First release : 21 Mar 2012
App size: 3.63 Mb
Geocaching is a global game of hide-and-seek. Geocaches are usually small waterproof containers holding a logbook and sometimes items for swapping. A simple web search for Geocaching will result in various websites which enable you to search for caches nearby. You may need to solve some clues, but youll almost always end up with a set of GPS coordinates identifying the location of the cache.
Enter the GPS coordinates into Geo Compass using any of the 3 most popular formats, and let Geo Compass point your way. Accuracy will always be subject to conditions and device capabilities, but using an iPhone outdoors with GPS enabled, youll usually be able to pinpoint a spot to within about 15 feet.
Features:
- Display distances in miles or kilometers
- Switch between coordinate formats in Settings or within app
- Enter and display coordinates in 3 different formats: DDD°MMSS.S", DDD°MM.MMM or DDD.DDDDD°
- Dials for entering coordinates - no switching between different keyboards
- Use the Back and Forward buttons on the main screen to switch destinations
- Name or rename your destinations
- Edit or duplicate an existing destination
- Create a destination at your current location (handy for finding your car again!)
- Rearrange and remove destinations
FAQ:
- How do I switch between km and miles?
Settings for Geocompass are provided in the Settings App. To reach this, press the hardware Home button to return to the Home Screen, and then launch Settings. Scroll down to Geo Compass and choose Coordinates Format and Units. Double-click the Home button to switch back to Geo Compass.
- How accurate is Geo Compass?
Geo Compass uses the same sensors and software libraries as other location/direction aware apps, including the iPhones pre-installed Compass app. The iPhone (3GSS and later) and the iPad have a built-in digital compass which works like a magnetic-needle compass. The accuracy of digital compass headings can be affected by magnetic or other environmental interference. The compass may need to be calibrated from time to time. Latest reviews of Geocaching Compass app for iPhone and iPad
I am very dissapointed of this app. It is not possible to copy coordinates from clipboard and this is the main necessity for geocaching! What is more, changing from N/S to W/E is very hard and completely not intuitative. Moreover, there are some inactive buttons. What is for? Please fix this!
This geocaching application is horrible. It says my closest geocache is 6643 miles away.( I know for fact there are some nearby.)I am in the USA. So maybe its across the pond. Either way this app needs major work I have instant regret in the dollar I spent to purchase it.
Unfortunately this app will not take you to the geocache you are trying to fine. If you follow the arrow and the distance it supposedly will take you within 16 feet of your goal. However once you get there the arrow changes direction and the distance jumps anywhere from 30 to 40 feet. Two out of the three times we used it, it stated we were right at the geocache or within a few feet of the location. We would take one step and it then would change to 30 or more feet away in another complete different direction. This is supposed to be a fun app but just turned out to be too aggravating to continue using. Deleted it from my phone!
Used this app with cub scouts to find a few geo caches. 10 year olds had no problems using it. Simple to use and change destinations. Great app.
Waste of 0.99 cents! I put in cords and says 7,801 miles away! WTH!
